The third largest private sector telecom player of India, Idea
launched 3G services today in all total 20 circles out of 22 circles of
India. This launch came in existence with the help of 3G ICR service.
Few days ago ban from ICR was lifted up and after that all the three
major telecom provider started showing signs of launching 3G in wide
range. Vodafone was first one to do so. Idea took this step today but
skipped two circles, Punjab and Orissa. See more details below.
After the launch of 3G services some 5 years back, Idea started to
provide 3G services in almost all circles. DoT soon challenged the ICR
policy of Telecos and ban was imposed over 3G ICR service. All the three
major telecos went to TDSAT for settlement and 5 days before ban was
lifted up and it was declared legal practice. After this decision of
TDSAT these Telecom trio (Airtel, Vodafone, Idea) started to set up
basics to launch 3G services everywhere.
Idea will now offer 3G in 20 circles both with their spectrum and
through 3G ICR service. But customers from Punjab and Orissa will have
to wait more since none of the three telecos have 3G spectrum in these
circles. But in other 20 circles Idea got a large 3G network and now
sending SMS to their customer to switch to 3G.
